More on plugin refills, have a question |
Lead | |

Hi, I'm new here too... I saw one message about using fragrance oil to refill them, it was with a different search, and now I don't see that post, but... I'd like to ask if anyone knows what kind of oil to mix with essential oils, to make your own plug in refill. I want to use lavender essential oil, need to know what is suggested to mix it with.
Thank you |

i use simmering potporri liquid. pull the wick out of the bottle and rinse both the bottle and the wick out good if your going to change scents. you have to turn the heat thing up all the way and they work just as good as the original refill. i get my potporri from the $ store

I was just wondering which kind of plug in is the easiest to refill? I was going to get some, but did not know which ones I could refill the easiest.
Thanks, Carmen |

How do you refill these bottles? I saw this post & wanted to try it. I ended up pulling the top part of the wick out. I used an oral medicine dropper to fill it. It would only fill halfway, it would make lots of bubbles & start bubbling out the top. Is this the right way or did I do something wrong?
Thanks Hugs & Prayers,

On the refill plugins....but I thought you should know.

Hello everyone,
Sorry to be the one to put a damper on the plugins, but I had to share this. I found this on the internet plus I have heard this on the news as well. Electrical Hazard "My brother and his wife learned a hard lesson this last week. Their house burned down...nothing left but ashes. They have good insurance, so the home will be replaced and most of the contents. That is the good news. However, they were sick when they found out the cause of the fire. The insurance investigator sifted through the ashes for several hours. He had the cause of the fire traced to the master bathroom. He asked my sister-in-law what she had plugged in the bathroom. She listed the normal things....curling iron, blow dryer. He kept saying to her, "No, this would be something that would disintegrate at high temperatures." Then, my sister-in-law remembered she had a Glade Plug-in in the bathroom. The investigator had one of those "Aha" moments. He said that was the cause of the fire. He said he has seen more home fires started with the plug in type room fresheners than anything else. He said the plastic they are made from is a THIN plastic. He said in every case there was nothing left to prove that it even existed. When the investigator looked in the wall plug, the two prongs left from the plug-in were still in there. My sister-in-law had one of the plug-ins that had a small night light built in it. She said she had noticed that the light would dim....and then finally go out. She would walk in a few hours later, and the light would be back on again. The investigator said that the unit was getting too hot, and would dim and go out rather than just blow the light bulb. Once it cooled down, it would come back on. That is a warning sign. The investigator said he personally wouldn't have any type of plug in fragrance device anywhere in his house. He has seen too many burned down homes. Thought I would warn you all. I had several of them plugged in my house. I immediately took them all down." Has anyone tried the oil rings you put around light bulbs? They are made of clay and the heat of the bulb is supposed to made the aroma rise....those make me nervous too though..... Well, does anyone else have alternative ideas???? |

the febreeze spray works wonderful! I when my bottle runs low, I use just a tiny bit of fabric softener and fill it back up with water, and I get two uses out of it! :)

plug ins reful question
|
Hi there.
Personally I cannot speak from experience with pug ins as I don't buy or use them but I am happy to hear that you want to refil them with essential oils. A step in the right direction for our planet IMO. Anyways I take it that the oil get's put into some sort of reserviour and needs to be able to withstand heat. If this is correct then mix the essential oil with Grapeseed oil. It can be found at the supermarket, is inexpensive, can withstand very hig heat, is odourless and tasteless. Mix up a batch with your Lavender essential oil and make yourself a nice massage oil or add some to your bath water for a nice moisture rich experience. Mix the oil, red vinegar and your favourite spices and make a nice itallian vinegarette or add a berry vinegar and some honey and make a summer dressing. Use it instead of butter, margarine or cooking oil for a healthy subsitute...... Or you could just drop your essential oil directly onto your lightbulb and every time you turn on the light the area will be filled with the scent of lavender. Hope this helps. |

By the way, the stuff about fires is an urban legend. You can find out more on Snopes. http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/household/glade.asp
