It seems everytime I go to buy cleaning things for the house and clothes I've spent a small fortune. Walmart is cheap but when I go to make these purchases I'll easily spend 100.00 and maybe bring home things for one meal.

I recently made the laundry detergent. It's lasting a long time. I made a triple batch. I even shared some of it. It didn't take hardly any of the ingredients to do it. I hardly put a dent in the washing soda and the borax. I did use a complete bar of the fels-naptha soap though.
I also used the fabric softner for awhile but I was longing for the sweet smell of downy so after I finished my bottle of homemade softner, I went back to downy. I will be making the dishwasher detergent soon. I don't know why I keep putting it off. I made the cake in a mug too. Quick and easy snack. |

I love Downy as well I think that would have to be my splurge. :)
I found the Downy Vanilla scented dryer sheets. Those were so full of fragrance that even the cashier thought that I was wearing an expensive cologne. LOL I said nope it's the Downy. I think that to make them stretch you could always cut them in half. I got mine for when I forget to add downy to the wash and for my closets. |

I haven't tried the vanilla yet. Will have to sneak a smell at Wally world.

You can dilute your Downy in an empty butter tub by at least 1/2, then dampen a sponge in the mixture and use like a dryer sheet.

Ah, as a poor college student, I can easily help you out of your quandry.
Ramen, or any type of noodles, are cheap, easy, fast, and definitely fun for kids (if you get cheap-o mac and cheese: yummy!) Rice is an excellent dish all by iteself Stir frys are awesome- a little shredded beef, a lot of vegetables, and some soy sauce, and you have a wonderful dinner! I use vinegar and newspaper for windows... smells a bit, but after an hour it's gone. The newspaper ensures no streaks! Hope I helped a little! -Jess |

I have one bottle of liquid Downy and it has lasted for over a year. I bought a sponge and cut it into chunks. Then tossed them into a lidded plastic container of perhaps 2 parts water and one part liquid Downy. Then I squeeze out a sponge and toss it into dryer with clothes.
Actually the container I use is a Folgers coffee plastic 'can' which I painted. So am saving two ways. |

Just thought I would add in my tip. I haven't used fabric softener in over 2 years. Here is my trick. Grab any regular old washcloth and rub into it about 1 tsp of regular hair conditioner. Your choice. I do this and each "application" lasts for about 10 loads. Its a great alternative to the 3 dollars a bottle fab. softener. lol

Thanks for that conditioner trick! Alas, my entire family and I am quite allergic to fabric softeners of any kind, so I'll be trying this :)

money saving tips | ||

Hey there.
If you are looking to save money on cleaning supplies then may I recommend that you consider buying a book called "Clean & Green" by Annie Berthold-Bond. You will find all sorts of cleaning tips and money saving ideas on how to clean just about anything in and around the house. As for saving money on clothing have you considered the Salvation Army or second hand stores. Here the Salvation Army has 1/2 off on Wednesdays and I can go with my daughter and spend about 20.00 and come out with all sorts of really cool clothes for her. Cheaper than Wal-mart by a long shot and the clothing is far more interesting. Hopefully this has helped you a bit. |

I make my own homemade laundry liquid and have tried lots of different scents in the liquid and nothing quite smelled good enough, i am on a fixed income and can't really afford to purchase downy as much as i would like...sooo... i use about 1/4 of a cup of white vinegar in a downy ball and add this downy scent i found online at... www.naturesgardencandles....item/rf-02
into the washer and this ends up working better and costing a little of nothing...so, woo hoo... enjoy guys for just a few pennies, we can have very clean clothes that smell great |

I make my own body wash. I bought 2 bars of soap for .80 cents each, grated them, melted them down with water, let it cool and filled old bottles with my new
body wash. I made 4 gallons of body wash!
