Hi, I'm looking for homemade ear wax removal remidies. I think they might have to do with olive oil and maybe peroxide? does anyone have any?

You can just put some peroxide in your ear canal, turn you head to the side and let it set and fizz for about 20 minutes. If you do this daily, it should help soften the wax. If there is a minute amount of wax, after this treatment, your body may expell it on its own just like it usually does. If there is a large ball of wax, you'll probably have to get it flushed out. These homemade treatments are just meant to soften the wax. Olive oil basically does the same thing, but doesn't work nearly as well in my opinion. If there is any redness, swelling, irritation, or pain, better go to a doctor instead of using these treatments--they'll make matters worse.

I always used one of those squeezy ball things (I guess they're for babies) with super-hot water. Squirt it in your ear, and it softens the wax as well as removes it. Do this for about 10 minutes on each ear and finish with a quick swab, and you're good.

I just use a medicine dosing syringe and lots of semi-hot water, with some peroxide if you like. A nurse taught me how. Just fill the syringe, hold a empty bowl under the ear being cleaned, and squirt the water in briskly. Do it a few times and even decent sized wax should flush out. If not, it should be near the entrance so you can grab it. My son couldn't hear well because of excess wax and this worked wonders. Good luck and let me know how it works!!

Please do not use straight peroxide or HOT water! Both of these can cause damage to the tympanic membrane (eardrum) and skin in the ear canal. I found the following recipe at an ENT doc's website. Boil small amount water, let cool. Mix 1 part peroxide, 1 part vinegar, 2 parts warm water (Boiled). Fill up ear canal with mixture, wait until fizzing stops. Use a bulb syringe or medical syringe if you can obtain one (30cc works great) to rinse. The water should be comfortably warm, not making you cringe or flinch. I use about 115 degrees temp water. The drops do not burn like some of the expensive over the counter drops. FYI, the peroxide breaks down the proteins and the vinegar breaks down the lipids in the earwax, so don't omit either one. This should help you obtain an inexpensive and comfortable remover. Good luck! (Oh yea, and if your ear is really hurting, skip this and go see your doc. Itchy ears are ok to irrigate, painful ones aren't.)
